Terbinafine for Nail Fungus

Terbinafine, better known as Lamisil (its commercial name), is an aynthetic allylamine antifungal used for treating fungal infections on fingernails and toenails (onychomicosis).  What it does is, it stops the growth of fungi on the nails, specifically the dermatophytes.

Terbinafine tablets are recommended to be take once per day during 6 weeks to treat fingernails, and once per day during 12 weeks to treat toenails.  This nail fungus medication is bought only through medical prescription, and you must follow exactly the indications of your doctor, because it can have certain side effects such as:

- Diarrhea
- Upset stomach
- Rash
- Hives
- Taste changes
- Stomach pain

It can produce also more serious side effects, though uncommon such as:

- Chronic upset stomach
- Lack of appetite
- Extreme tiredness
- Vomiting/nausea
- Dark urine
- Pale stools
- Fever

Terbinafine or Lamisil treatment, can be very expensive costing up to a thousand dollars per month, and must be followed daily or you risk growing that nail fungus again.  Remember this is just an information article, you must always talk to a doctor if you need to treat your nail fungus with a medication.
